Brand New Houston has scoured this years list, and picked out some of our favorites below:

and, to round out of favorites, $45 dinner at Pappa’s Steakhouse for anything at all because Pappa’s is amazing, but don’t even think about not ordering the Cheesecake!

These are just a small sample of the amazing restaurants participating in Houston Restaurant Weeks this year.. the list is killing it! Enjoy yourself this month and eat your heart out, Houston! And the best part is that a portion of every meal will go to The Houston Food Bank, so know you’re doing good by your meal as well!

Noie J is riding his own wave with 28.

Born and raised in Houston, Texas comes Noie J with his new album titled “28.” The Baker Yung produced album picks up where the two left off on their banger “Hills” and takes you on a musical journey which begins with the up-tempo “Aint Worried” and moves effortlessly to the slower and more personal “Hustle” and “Run Way”.

Noie’s musical inspiration began when he was in the 2ndgrade after first hearing artists such as Nelly, DMX, and Cash Money members. After being inspired at such a young age, image_6483441his passion was solidified. Through the years, being influenced by the likes of Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, and Kid Cudi, his rapping style has developed a unique sound, palpable in every song although individually unique for each track. We were immediately pulled in by “Noie’s Ark”, paying homage to his producer and road dog, Baker Yung in the melodic number. In this upbeat track Noie crafts a catchy chorus rapping “me and Baker from the start, I cant let them ride the wave, this is Noie’s Ark.”  Noie understands that in Houston especially, dope melodies are everything and he doesn’t disappoint in that arena.

Having previously performed at Lyrical Lemonade in Austin, stay tuned for big surprises coming for Noie J with shows in the works around the country! The Park People Are Taking Over..

Brand New To Houston…Park People 4

The Park People have arrived, but they are only here for a limited time. Nathan Sawaya, the man behind THE ART OF THE BRICK exhibition brought his talents to Houston with this must see installation until August 24th. The sculptures are currently at Allen Center on The Acre, but they don’t like being in one place for too long so visit them there before they move to 909 Fannin St. on Aug. 13–24 and these nomads are gone for good.

East Coast to Third Coast!

Brand New in Houston is Dallas transplant East Hampton Sandwich Co. with their highly anticipated Houston locations serving killer sandwiches and newsworthy lobster rolls!!

East Hampton came to Houston, and came with a bang! In the matter of a few summer months, they opened 2 locations inside the 6-10 loop, first in River Oaks District and next in Montrose. Huge balloon displays and endless lines led to the restaurant that literally feels like a beach vacation when you walk inside. Dishes for every type of diner, indulgent sandwiches, clean eating friendly salads and wraps, and treat-yo-self lobster rolls and froze’s.. you can’t go wrong!

If you wonder why we keep referencing the Lobster Roll, wonder no more, IMG_2395its because its just THAT good. Lots of fresh lobster, minus the filling, in an incredibly soft bun with some extra butter on the side. What more can you really ask for?! Incredibly cool and refreshing for a hot Houston day. And once you’ve had the lobster roll one too many times (if thats even possible) we suggest the Fried Chicken + Jack – crispy, bacon-ey, avocado-ey, little bit spicy, basically perfect-ey. IMG_2398

On the side, we were loving the Chowda’s because nothing more East Coast than Lobstah with some Chowda, amiright?! The @NewFoodHouston team literally liked all of them, but we will note that the Clam Chowder clams were perfectly tender, the Roasted Corn + Shrimp has a perfect kick and basically Gouda is amazing in everything!

And last, but certainly not least. Don’t even think about leaving without a Whoopie Pie. Seriously O-M-G soft cookies with a perfect filling. If your appetite even made it to the end of this blog, just go ahead and grab your keys and head to the nearest location because your froze is mixed and waiting, my friends. Enjoy, luv!!

Common Bond: Dinner is Served!

More than Mouthwatering Pastries and Brunch…

We all know the Houston gem sitting beautifully on the corner of Westheimer and Dunlavy, serving amazing pastries, bread, and desserts: Common Bond. We head there every weekend to stand in line for exquisite brunch and latte’s and we’re never disappointed by our choices, because lets be real – you can’t go wrong.

#NewFoodHouston has been indulging on Nutella Croissants and Kugelhopf for years now and we are so happy to let the greater Houston area know that Common Bond is now serving dinner AND they are set to release their Spring Menu on Monday, March 5, 2018.

We were lucky enough to get the inside scoop on this menu, and trust us when we say… its amazing! This might really be the first time we can say that we legitimately cannot even pick a favorite dish. We really feel bad for you having to pick only one, but that just means you have to go back!!

If you’re looking for something light, extremely refreshing and full of flavor, go for the Melon and Prosciutto. A salad type dish consisting of compressed watermelon andIMG_0470 cantaloupe, topped with prosciutto chips, arugula, sheeps milk feta, mint, radish, fried shallots, pepitas, and balsamic reduction. The melons are packed with juice paired perfectly with the crunchy prosciutto and the feta cheese. Chef Matt Baum really knows how to pair all of these flavors beautifully for a dish to remember and feel good about!

If you’re in the mood for pizza, believe it or not, Common Bond is your spot. I mean, they do know how to make some mean bread. Hopefully, you’ve had the chance to try their flatbreads for brunchIMG_0472 and know the magic awaiting you, but if not, don’t worry – you have 3 #brandnew options to choose from.

  1. Spicy Pepperoni and Goat Cheese. This flatbread packs a punch with deli style pepperoni, pomadoro sauce, goat cheese, and fresh jalapenos. Spicy, sweet, and crunchy – the perfect trio. You wont be sorry.
  2. Heirloom Tomato and Herbed Ricotta. A juicy and flavorful flatbread with everyone’s favorite tomato’s – heirlooms, herbed ricotta, pomadoro sauce, shaved shallots, pine nuts, and balsamic reduction. This flatbread is stacked high and every bite leaves you wanting more. Seriously so juicy and so perfect.
  3. Brussels Sprouts and Feta. What we have here is different and spectacular. Crispy brussels sprouts (and if you haven’t hopped on the brussels sprouts train, you’re late, but theirs still seats), sheeps milk feta, applewood smoked bacon, mozzarella, parmesan, and olive oil. Now, if you’re wondering where the sauce is, we didn’t miss it, its not there, but its ok because this bad boy doesn’t even need it! The crispy, crunchy, juicy brussels sprouts, with the cheese and the bacon and the olive oil, you wont miss a single thing, except for more when it’s gone.

 

If you’re in the mood for some seafood, Common Bond is here for you with their Lump Crab Cakes. These crab cakes are packed with crab without all the fillings. IMG_0468Extremely creamy center and perfectly fried to golden perfection, its light and airy and filling at the same time! The cake is served on an edamame, corn and zucchini succotash and a beautiful brown butter tomato coulis. Not only is this dish beautiful to the eye, it tastes amazing!

For a chicken dish, Chef Matt created the Pan Seared Chicken Breast with beyond juicy chicken (actually probably the juiciest chicken we have ever tasted), paired with crispy potatoes anna, swiss chard, vichy carrots, and whole grain mustard sauce. These potatoes are one-of-a-kind, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, IMG_0467super flaky and perfectly cooked. With sweet carrots and a soft mustard sauce, this is the perfect chicken dish for anyone to enjoy.

And now, last, but not least, if you’re feeling like some red meat, behold the Herb Crusted Lamb Chops. These chops are truly too beautiful to eat, but definitely eat them and eat them all!! Perfectly cooked with a flavor packed green crust, served with sweet vichy carrots, seasoned fingerling potatoes, soft pearl onions, and rosemary lamb jus. As a dessert, you truly have endless options at Common Bond. Cakes and tarts, macrons and pastries. It is actually a challenge to make a choice. But, if you’re looking for a chocolate confection, look no further than the Chocolate Tart. Rich dark chocolate, again too beautiful to eat (we’re not just saying that, really this food is gorgeous), with an amazingly not-too-sweet chocolate macron to top next to a truffle type piece of chocolate. This is a one-of-a-kind tart will perfectly round out your dinner at Common Bond, we promise.

 

Welp, now that we have walked you through the new Spring Dinner Menu, we know you have a lot of thinking to do: How soon can you get to Common Bond for Dinner? Which dish should you order? Do you save room for dessert? Do you take a pastry home with you for breakfast? How soon can you go back for dinner again? We know, its not easy, but one thing is for sure – as soon as you step foot into Common Bond, you won’t be sorry. The pastries begin being made at 3 am and the chefs are tirelessly creating unique and flavor-packed dishes made with true love. You Can Only Go Up From Here!

Welcome to your Musical Journey…

You Can Only Go Up From Here by Zona Jetson hit the public on November 24, 2017 – Black Friday. Originally created by Jetson as a showcase of his musical ability and range, You Can Only Go Up instead stands strongly as a melodic art piece individually guiding each listener through their own journey of life from song 1 to 11.

Life is a funny thing; it’s a rollercoaster full of sadness and anger, commanding through lessons and adventures, to happiness, joy, and success. Three things we now know are for sure in life: Death, Taxes, and from wherever you are today in your life – we all want to go up. That’s why this collection resonates with all of its listeners, its takes you on a ride that you create. After listening to it entirely, I had crafted my own version of events to accompany every song and adding imagery to the melodies came naturally through the complexity of each track.

My favorites songs were, in my opinion, the ones that strongly showed the evolution of the story (your story). For example in my imagery, track 1: The Hunger For More, speaks innocence and simplicity, it’s the beginning of wherever you are in life, where you are blissfully happy and don’t know what’s to come yet. Songs 2-4 are the ultimate build up, they take you high, and remind you of all the fun, adventurous, maybe even scary times you’ve had in your life. You then reach track 5 – a real turning point. “Chance” declares IMG_0294triumph, conquest, and achievement. You’re at the peak, and in my take, the defining moment of the album. Track 6 and 7 significantly change in tone, expressing possible thoughtfulness, maybe reflection or contemplation of the journey thus far. Songs 8 and 9 pick back up to more positive feel, rounding out to track 10: Don’t Wait On Me, showcasing what I feel as contentment. You are finally where you are today – whether good or bad, you’ve made it. You overcame through high times and low times, but you’re here and you’re better than ever. Finally, the closing song is the perfect conclusion to the album: Silver Lining. This song sends a “to be continued” vibe. As long as you are breathing, your story is never over.

Clearly, listening to this album has taken me on my own rollercoaster journey. I connect with each song in a way that is more like a story rather than a traditional music album. And the best part of this art piece is that you can connect with it in your own unique way too. We might come from different backgrounds, colors, creeds, and religions, but we all have at least one thing in common: we all want to go up from here.

Ruth’s Chris Goes Italiano, For One Night Only..

Houston, Texas – October 19, 2017 – Beginning at 6:30 p.m. –  $110 per person

One night, five courses with Marchesi Antinori wine pairings! You don’t want to miss this!!

To give a quick background, Ruth’s Chris began the Ruth’s TasteMaker Dinners earlier this year to feature exclusive menus paired with some of the most respected and admired wine and spirit makers in the world. This sixth and final 2017 showcase features the Antinori family’s highly praised Tuscan wines, which have been in production for centuries, ever since 1385 – not a typo.

Now for the food journey…

Course One starts off the palate with Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio. And if anyone knows1ST COURSE_ Beeft Tenderloin Carpaccio 3 their carpaccio, it’s Ruth’s Chris. 50 years of upscale steak experience in every tenderloin bite. We’re drooling already. Topped with fresh strawberries, sherry marinated beets, and roasted pine nuts for a full flavor combination bringing freshness and tender meat perfectly together. Also paired with the Antinori Scalabrone blend of Cabarnet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah, you’re off to a great start.

Course Two gets it going with a Burrata Cheese and Heirloom Tomato Salad because seriously, Burrata is arguably the best cheese that exists. Topped with a fresh Basil Gremolata, an Italian Herb Vinaigrette, and paired with the crisp and citrusy Antinori Vermentino as the perfect lead into the main courses.

By this time, we already know what you’re going to be thinking. The food is great, the drinks are perfect, you’re so glad you made this reservation, and you’re so excited for the next dish. We know, we know. Wait no longer..

3RD COURSE - Pan Seared Halibut & Patatas Bravas 2The Third Course is a Pan-Seared Halibut and Patatas Bravas with Sopressata, dried cherries and basil oil. Super flaky, but also meaty, perfectly cooked Halibut with Spanish style delicious potatoes to accompany. Paired is the Antinori Il Bruciato, which is a deeper blend of Cabarnet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah leaving a robust aroma of red berry fruits and sweet spices. Seriously, yes!

Course Four, yes still more, is probably what you’ve been waiting for. The drum roll. The main attraction. Porcini Rubbed Filet topped with Fried Veal Ravioli. You read that right, Filet and Veal and Ravioli… With Asparagus Gratin and Bagna Cauda – which is made with garlic, anchovies, olive oil, and butter, served similarly to fondue. And if that wasn’t enough to make this meal spectacular, this dish also comes with perfectly pillowy roasted mushroom Risotto. This game changer meal is paired with the Antinori Bolgheri Superiore, a highly rated blend to round out this meal.

MAIN COURSE_ Porcini Rubbed Filet topped with Fried Veal Ravioli

If you have room, and we know you’ll make room because no one leaves deliciousness on the table, Course Five is dessert!! To end this Italian flavor ride is a Banana and Honey Panna Cotta with brûlée bananas and praline crunch. Paired with the Antinori Muffato della Sala white blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Grechetto, Semillon, Gewürztraminer, and Riesling, which sounds super confusing, but really its light, delicate, and the perfect amount of sweetness to pair with dessert!

As you take your last bite, you might actually forget that you’re still in Houston, Texas and will think you’re cliffside in Livorno, Italy overlooking the breathtaking Ligurian Sea. But, fear not, because while you’ll still be in tank-top Houston “Fall” weather, your taste buds will thank you for weeks.
